Trekking in Maremma and in the Islands
Itineraries are particularly beautiful, seen that are in the Vie Cave, old streets dig in the tufa from Etrusks and then used again in the following centuries, which go through woods and fields reaching necropolis of particular beauty. At Pitigliano, entirely built on a tufa hill, we will go through the Jewish ghetto and we will get out from the village to run through the Vie Cave that brings to Sovana. Here we will visit the historical centre of the old capital of the Aldobrandesco feud and the most important necropolis of the "Parco della civiltÓ del Tufo", where there is the famous tomb Ildebranda. Trekking goes on to the islands of Giglio and Giannutri, two jewels of the Tuscan Archipelago, the first characterised by its granite nature, the second by its typical form at half moon and by the intense colours and smells of plants living on it.
Day 1: Sorano - S. Rocco
Arrival to Sorano in the late morning and meeting with the guide. Visit of the historical centre. Excursion in the Via Cava of S. Rocco and visit to the necropolis. Transfer to Pitigliano at the Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Pitigliano - Sovana
Breakfast at the hotel - transfer to Sovana to visit the historical centre and the necropolis. Trekking in the Via Cava that links Sovana to Pitigliano. Arrival to Pitigliano and taste of wine and local products. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Vitozza - Sorano
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Vitozza: visit of the rocky installation and trekking in the hills of tufa till to reach Sorano. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Vulci
Breakfast at the Hotel: preparation of bags and transfer to Vulci. Visit of the cave, at the beginning of the trekking where there is the castle. Visit of the National gallery of Archeology hosted by the castle. In the afternoon back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Isola di Giannutri
Breakfast and transfer to Porto Santo Stefano, meeting with the excursionist guide and boarding on a ship to the island of Giannutri. The visit to Giannutri is done by foot along the path for the Grottoni till the lighthouse of Capel Rosso, at the southern point of the island. The itinerary is particularly interesting for the link between the geological, zoological and botanical aspects. Back to Porto Santo Stefano and departure for the Island of Giglio. Back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Giglio Castello
After breakfast at the hotel, excursion long the little streets of the island that for centuries had been the only way of linking between the seaport and the village of Giglio Castello (405m). After a rest is essential a visit to Giglio Castello, a straight suburb surrounded by medieval walls. Left the straight streets, we go on a large path till to reach the beach of Campese, where there is the tower, built by the grand duke of Tuscany at the end of 1600, defending a coralliferous plantation very close to the coast. Back to the hotel by bus in the late afternoon, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Beaches of Cannelle and Caldane
After breakfast, naturalistic excursion from Giglio Castello long the side of the island till the Poggio della Pagana (496m) where the sight goes on both sides and to the close islands of Giannutri and Montecristo. Running a suggestive path characterised by the surfacing of enormous granite rocks in the Mediterranean vegetation, we reach then the beaches of Cannelle and Caldane linked by one of the most beautiful tracts of coast in the Mediterranean. Back in the afternoon to Giglio Porto, retire of the baggage in the hotel and departure with a ship to Porto Santo Stefano.
