Trekking in the secret Valleys of The Apennine
The Tosco-Emiliano Apennine represents the ideal terrain for an easy trekking and for everyone, and it is in the meanwhile of big naturalistic interest. The area of the Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano offers a big variety of environment, from the woods of the bottom valley - passed by the torrent Ozola or from the first waters of Serchio di Soraggio - to the chestnut woods, the beech woods and the fir woods that go through the sides till the devoiced summits with grasslands. The summits of the Park draw the path of Sentiero Italia and from here the sight goes to the Alps and the Tyrrhenian Coast.
Day 1: Corfino - Orecchiella Natural Park
Meeting among the participants and the guide and presentation of the program. Beginning of the trekking that starts in the spectacular path of the Grottacce, between canyons and vertical walls, breeding site of the Golden eagle. After the visit of the Visitor Center of the Park, dinner and overnight stay at the Refuge Isera.
Day 2: Isera Refuge - Orecchiella Visitor Center -La Foce Refuge
Important naturalistic area and one of the first natural parks in Tuscany, Orecchiella is today the big part of the National Apennine Park. Through the beech wood and big grasslands, we reach the risings of river Serchio, reaching the principal Apennine side where is situated the refuge La Foce (1600m). Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: La Foce Refuge - Monte Cusna - Battisti Refuge
A large path conduces in 20 minutes to Forcerella (1700m). we are on the side of the mount that splits Tuscany from Emilia: from here the panorama is enormous, from one side the Mar Ligure, on the other side the Pianura Padana. We go through a path watching the coast in direction of Val d'Ozola, meeting first of all the refuge Bargetana and then the refuge Battisti, where we will stay for this part of the trekking. After having put our bags down we will go up to the summit of the area of the park and of all the northern Apennine: Mount Cusna (2120m). At these heights is easy to see the flight of the Golden eagle and to see the marmots hiding in their lairs. Back to the refuge Battisti, dinner and overnight Stay.
Day 4: Battisti Refuge - Monte Prado - Monte Vecchio - Casone di Profecchia
From the Refuge we go through a path that conducts us first to the part near the summit and then directly on the highest summit of Tuscany, Mount Prado (2050m). From here we go on to a surrounding great wood area, the famous and historical Abetina Reale, where many woods remember us how it is still today a precious way of income for the local community. We reach the Passo Bocca di Massa following the path, a very panoramic place, and going on for big grasslands, we reach the locality Casone di Profecchia (dinner and overnight stay at the hotel).
Day 5: Casone di Profecchia - Corfino
Various itinerary between paths and streets with rocks, for a trekking that brings us to the rural culture of the Alta Garfagnana, through little villages, nearly abandoned, but rich of history and of traditions. Arrival to Corfino in the afternoon.
